Christiana HospitalChristiana Hospital is a large community-based tertiary care center in Newark, Delaware that provides services to people living in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Christiana Hospital is a level-one trauma center; therefore, ASPA provides 24 hour in house anesthetic coverage 365 days a year.
The Christiana Hospital operating rooms are some of the busiest in the entire country. Anesthesia is delivered utilizing the Anesthesia Care Team approach in which an Anesthesiologist and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist collaborate to ensure safe and appropriate anesthesia care. ASPA provides anesthesia services to adult and pediatric patients every day of the year. We also provide services to a number of suites outside of the Christiana operating room but within Christiana Hospital.

Anesthesia services for the obstetric patients at Christiana Care are provided by an Anesthesia Care Tteam (an Anesthesiologist and a CRNA) 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We provide both routine labor support as well as emergency services. Our goal is to ensure a safe experience for every patient.
We offer epidurals for labor and provide them for over 80% of the women in labor at Christiana Care. Additionally, we provide anesthesia for women planning on Cesarean Section for delivery as well as when an emergency Cesarean Section is required.

Wilmington HospitalWilmington Hospital is a full service institution that is part of Christiana Care Health System. The hospital is located near downtown Wilmington. The operating rooms are available seven days a week, 24 hours per day although the focus of the operating suite is during daytime hours. Wilmington Hospital is the home of the Total Joint Replacement Center and the majority of cases done here are orthopedic. Patients are screened prior to total joint operations in order to prepare for the highly efficient delivery of primarily regional anesthetics followed by intensive rehabilitation on specialized post surgical units. General surgical, gynecological, plastic and ear nose and throat surgeries make up the bulk of the other specialty areas. Anesthesia is delivered utilizing the Anesthesia Care Team approach in which an Anesthesiologist and CRNA collaborate to ensure safe and appropriate anesthesia care.
The Christiana Surgicenter, conveniently located on the Christiana Hospital campus, has been providing outpatient surgical services since 1993. The facility is fully equipped with the latest technology to provide anesthetic care for a variety of surgical subspecialties. General and plastic surgery, gynecologic, orthopedic, ENT, urology and vascular outpatient procedures are performed in its seven operating rooms and three procedure rooms.
Anesthetic techniques used at the surgicenter emphasize patient safety and comfort before, during and after surgery. In addition to general anesthesia and sedation (MAC) a variety of regional nerve blocks are also offered to ensure patient comfort for many orthopedic procedures as well as the recovery period.
With the resources of Christiana Hospital next door, the Christiana Surgicenter is able to offer outpatient care to many patients not considered candidates for most surgicenters. We can accommodate people with VRE, MRSA, latex allergy or home oxygen dependency.
Anesthesia care at the Christiana Surgicenter uses the Anesthesiologist/Nurse Anesthetist model seen throughout the Christiana Care Health System. Patients appreciate the convenience of a facility where they receive the best in anesthesia care from experienced practitioners.
The Roxana Cannon Arsht Surgicenter, established in March of 2000, is a same day surgery center located in downtown Wilmington within close proximity to Wilmington Hospital. Anesthesia services are provided across a wide spectrum of surgical specialties although ophthalmology, podiatry, orthopedic, plastic, gynecologic, otolaryngology, minor vascular and general surgery comprise the highest volume of cases. At this site, anesthesia services are also provided utilizing both Anesthesiologists and CRNA's, to ensure the safest and most efficient patient care. We deliver a variety of anesthetics including general, monitored anesthesia care and regional nerve blocks to provide our patients with the most favorable recovery from surgery and postoperative pain control.
For the past three years, this surgicenter has consistently scored as one of the top two surgicenters in its size for outstanding patient satisfaction in the Press Ganey survey. The anesthesia services provided were also cited to be exceptional and were an integral part of the overall evaluation.
There is room for expansion in the number of operating suites at this site and it is our hope that this will come to fruition within the next year.
Glasgow
Ambulatory Surgery Center of the Glasgow Medical Center, L.L.C. Glasgow Medical Center’s Ambulatory Surgery Center is a free-standing surgery center located fifteen minutes south of Christiana Hospital. It is convenient to communities of Glasgow/Bear/Newark and Middletown. Although closely affiliated with the Christiana Care Health System, it is not actually a member of that system. As such, it has some distinctively different goals and overall mission. Glasgow Surgery Center prides itself on being a site of the highest quality surgical care and strives to deliver this care in a more convenient, patient-friendly, community-based atmosphere that is cost-effective for both the patients and practitioners that it serves. Glasgow provides surgical services in the fields of general surgery, orthopedics, podiatry, plastic surgery, ophthalmic surgery, urological surgery, ENT surgery, pain management, and gastrointestinal endoscopy. The surgery center is state-licensed, Medicare-approved, and an AAAHC accredited facility.
Anesthesia Services, P.A. has been providing services to the Glasgow Ambulatory Surgery Center since 2001 with the same commitment to excellence and efficiency of anesthetic care that has been our standard for our Christiana and Wilmington locations. We subscribe to the same, if not more stringent, pre-operative assessment/screening of patients that are to be considered acceptable for proposed surgery/anesthetic, recognizing the unique circumstance that a freestanding surgery center presents.
We offer a diverse range of anesthetic care options including routine general anesthetics and MACs as well as regional anesthesia. We take particular pride in optimizing the use of regional blocks in orthopedic procedures for improved patient recovery with a proven record of virtually no hospital admissions for pain control or anesthetic issues.
Another focus at the Glasgow Surgery Center is that we are committed to ensuring a comfortable and safe experience for the many patients that undergo endoscopy. We recognize that these procedures are becoming an essential component of routine preventive medicine, and have far-reaching prospects for improving the successful early identification and intervention in the battle against colon cancer. Regionally, we have done trend-setting work in the area of providing safe, comfortable, and efficient delivery of anesthesia for endoscopy procedures.
Finally, the Glasgow Surgery Center delivers technical excellence in surgical care. This community-based surgery center distinguishes itself by providing technical excellence while maintaining a strong emphasis on the specific needs of the patients, practitioners and the community it serves.
